August 15, 2007 - The BackPack Program in Lorain County is seeing big support from local organization: The Nordson Corporation Foundation has awarded a generous grant of $25,000, Elyria City Schools awarded $4,000 and Sam's Club in Sheffield Village awarded $1,000. A collaboration with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lorain County, the program distributes backpacks on the weekends to children who might not otherwise have food to eat on the weekends.
June 18, 2007 - Second Harvest is pleased to announce the Nord Family Foundation awarded a grant in the amount of $75,000 to fund our warehouse reconfiguration project. $50,000 is an outright grant and $25,000 is a 1:1 challenge grant. Our sincere thanks to the Nord Family Foundation for their continued support of Second Harvest and our efforts to end hunger.
February 11 - 18, 2007 - Firelands Association for the Visual Arts
(FAVA) will host art work created by local students from Firelands High
School, Elyria High School, Boys & Girls Clubs of Lorain County
& Erie Elementary at their gallery. The bowls and drawings were
created in honor of Second Harvest's 25th anniversary. For more

January 25, 2007 - Second Harvest kicks of the celebration of our 25th
anniversary with "Second Harvest: Inside Out" held at the facilities on
Baumahart Rd.
November 17, 2006 - Second Harvest and the Boys & Girls Club of
Lorain County will host the grand opening of The BackPack Program.
Join us Friday, November 17 from 4-6PM at Lincoln Elementary School,
1600 E. 31st Street in Lorain.
October 4, 2006 - In honor of the grand opening of the new Nia Center, Kalahari Resorts donated 17,200 cans of chicken noodle soup to Second Harvest. Each can of soup represents the 17,200 square feet that makes up the Nia Center's grand ballroom. The grand opening was celebrate with speaker Jack Canfield, author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series.
September 19, 2006 - The Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club of Sandusky will hold the grand opening of the area's first Kids Cafe. The Kids Cafe is funded through a grant from the ConAgra Feeding Children Better Foundation and America's Second Harvest - The Nation's Food Bank Network.

November 28, 2005 - The 1st annual Long Haul Against Hunger wrapped up today. Through the generosity of WCPZ-FM Mix 102.7, WLEC-AM 1450 and WMJK-FM 100.9 The Coast listeners over 10,000 pounds of food was raised. Watch for the 2nd annual Long Haul Against Hunger in November 2006 and help us make the holidays brighter for those in need.
November 15, 2005 - The Food Bank is pleased to announce through the generosity of the ConAgra Feeding Children Better Foundation and America's Second Harvest - The Nation's Food Bank Network we have added a third vehicle to our fleet. The 14' refrigerated Ford 550 truck will allow us to increase deliveries to our member agencies and expand our produce delivery. The Mylander Foundation added the finishing touch to the truck by helping the Food Bank add a liftgate to make deliveries easier. |
