County Poverty Statistics

According to the most recent information released by the U.S. Census Bureau in September 2010, a total of 66,853 people in our region live at or below the federal poverty level.

The 2009 Federal Poverty Guidelines define the poverty level for a family of four as income at or below $22,050.  Second Harvest serves member agencies in four counties in the North Central Ohio region: Crawford, Erie, Huron and Lorain.

Crawford County:

  • Population Below 100% of Poverty:   6,388
  • People Living Below Poverty Level:  14.9%
  • Children Living Below Poverty Level:  23.9%


Erie County:

  • Population Below 100% of Poverty: 10,981
  • People Living Below Poverty Level:   14.6%
  • Children Living Below Poverty Level:   20.2%


Huron County:

  • Population Below 100% of Poverty: 7,349
  • People Living Below Poverty Level:  12.4%
  • Children Living Below Poverty Level:  19%


Lorain County:

  • Population Below 100% of Poverty: 42,135
  • People Living Below Poverty Level:   14.4%
  • Children Living Below Poverty Level:  21.9%
