COVID-19 Information & Recommendations

UPDATED 3/11/2020

Second Harvest is actively monitoring the situation around the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and will do our best to provide guidance in serving our community members in need of food assistance while protecting your staff and volunteers.  Following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Ohio Department of Health and best practices, we have created resources to assist and guide you. The information provided on this page will be updated as information is available or guidelines change.

Resource Documents:

Beginning 3/12/20 the following will be available at no cost on the shopping list:

  • Plastic bags for food pantries to facilitate no touch distributions
  • Styrofoam containers and wrapped plasticware for to-go meal distributions for hot meals

Basic Information:

  • COVID-19 is spread through droplets released when someone coughs or sneezes. The virus can be active on surfaces for up to 9 days
  • Know the symptoms: fever, dry cough, shortness of breath
  • Most likely there are currently more cases in Ohio than currently identified. As we increase testing, the number of identified cases WILL increase. Don’t panic, prepare

Basic Precautions:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air-dry hands
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands
  • Stay home when you are sick and urge volunteers to stay home when sick.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick
  • If you are not feeling well, stay home
