Susan has been an integral part of Second Harvest since 2011, starting as the Community Engagement Coordinator. Over the years, her leadership and passion for the mission have propelled her through various roles to her current position as Vice President of External Affairs. In this role, Susan provides strategic vision and oversees fundraising, development, marketing and community outreach efforts ensuring that Second Harvest continues to grow and thrive.
One of Susan’s favorite aspects of her work is connecting with individuals, companies and organizations who are inspired to support Second Harvest’s mission. Whether through volunteering, donating, or forming strategic partnerships, Susan finds joy in helping others fulfill their own dreams while simultaneously sustaining the vital work of the organization. Her ability to build strong relationships and foster meaningful collaborations underscores her belief that the mission of Second Harvest is a collective effort, relying on the dedication of staff, volunteers, and community supporters alike.
Susan’s commitment to serving the community extends far beyond her professional role. She has actively participated in various leadership and special interest groups, including 100 Women Who Care About Lorain County, Women’s Fund and local community groups.
A notable highlight of her career was successfully leading a $5.1 million capital campaign to fund Second Harvest’s Nordson Food Distribution Center—an accomplishment that exceeded expectations, with pledges fulfilled within 18 months of the facility’s opening.
When she’s not working, Susan enjoys spending time with family and friends, walking, gardening and traveling. A lifelong fan of the changing seasons in Ohio, she prefers to be outside as much as possible. She also makes time to cook plant-based meals, savor chocolate, and cheer on her favorite college sports team. Her dedication to Second Harvest and the greater community is evident in every aspect of her life, as she continues to inspire hope and change lives through her work.
