The reality is, far too many seniors are going hungry. As a result, their bodies don’t receive the nutrients they need to function at their best. Second Harvest's Senior Box Program is a federal program that provides seniors with monthly food boxes to eligible community members 60 years and older. The food boxes include canned fruits & vegetables, peanut butter, beans, cereal, pasta, bottled juice, shelf stable milk, canned meat, cheese, and fresh produce.
Volunteers will be able to have face-to-face contact with our Senior Box Program members when the deliveries are made. For many seniors, especially those who live alone, they don’t always get this kind of personal connection with another person on a regular basis. They may talk on the phone with friends and family members, but actually being able to see someone may not happen that often. Research has revealed that seniors who receive meal deliveries experience fewer falls and even less hospitalizations.
