Advocacy - State Food Programs

State Food Programs

State food programs bring fresh, nutritious Ohio-sourced food to neighbors while supporting farmers, producers, and local food systems across the state. These programs make up 20% of the food supply Second Harvest receives.

The Ohio Food Program

The Ohio Food Program provides shelf-stable foods, protein items and other nutritious center-of-the-plate foods to Ohio’s foodbanks through funding made possible by the State of Ohio. This program helps source items not available through federal food resources and ensures food banks can better meet local needs.

The Ohio Agricultural Clearance Program

The Ohio Agricultural Clearance Program redirects surplus Ohio-grown agricultural products from farmers, growers, and producers to food banks, helping provide fresh fruits and vegetables to families. This program reduces food waste for items unable to be sold to retail markets and is critical to supporting Ohio agriculture.
